neither here nor there
but the warm familiar place in between
privileged, free, but disconnected
aware, conscious, but disconnected
the light flutter, a reminder, my ancestors are within me
my grandmothers hands pouring chai
weathered and warm
her laughter drifting through the mountains
soft and serene
the soil that bore my ancestors, rooted and growing

Guleer Shahab (she/her) is a Kurdish-born designer, poet, writer, and the founder of @ghoneythings. Her work is driven by the collision of the east and the west, a place most familiar to her. She finds inspiration in her experiences living in the diaspora, identity, rebellion, and warm memories of the motherland.
