ARTIST STATEMENT

The series are “portraits” for Tom and Bianka. I am a math PhD student and Tom is my academic advisor. Bianka was my therapist during 2018. I was struggling with depression on and off for the past couple years. During the most difficult time, I felt I got so much support from the two people and they were always there to remind me that I’m good enough as who I am.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Jiajun Yan is a painter primarily working with oil. She likes to paint large scale as well. Outside of painting, she is a full-time math PhD student working in low-dimensional topology.
