LETTERPRESS POETRY
The Courthouse
is integral to
Charlottesville’s
Identity, said the
lady from the
Historical Society.
Thomas Jefferson
called it the
“Common Temple”:
Different kinds
of white
protestants
met here.
She did not
mention
the people those
protestants
sold from
these steps
Or that soldiers
from our county
kidnapped & sold
free Blacks.
That the klan
would someday
meet in the
Common Temple.
We are a nation
of Law & Order
said the President,
in a speech while
the nation
burned.
He called
our anger
domestic terror.
He told us
what would
happen if we
did not obey.
He did not
mention
under
God’s Law
the Wicked
are punished
for their
iniquity.
And the
guardians of
The Old World
are mere idols.
God delights
in their destruction.
