Bad Milk Press is proud to present this special collaboration issue of MALA LECHE, a radical art and writing zine featuring the work of women, non-binary, and genderqueer artists and writers from Central Virginia. This special issue of MALA LECHE is the product of a collaboration between the 2022’s CHISPA internship program at Creciendo Juntos (affectionally known as the CHISPA BBYs) and Bad Milk Press. These young creatives developed a theme, which invited Latinx women, non-binary, and genderqueer creatives in the Central Virginia area to share stories unique to their Latinx roots and experiences living in the United States. This collaboration issue is a container for the work of ten Latinx artists and writers from Central Virginia -- some of whom are showcasing their work for the first time.

Creciendo Juntos is an organization which provides a platform for the voices, needs and wants of the Latinx community in Charlottesville and surrounding counties through education and leadership development. As agents of advocacy and equity, CJ’s volunteer network of individuals and organizations strive to strengthen Central Virginia by ensuring that all Latinx individuals have access to the opportunities they need to become resilient leaders in our community. CHISPA is a program within Creciendo Juntos, which provides space for Charlottesville’s Latinx youth/youth of color to engage with young, talented and distinguished artists of color that are using their creativity and talent to make positive social change in their communities all over the country. This issue would not have been possible without Creciendo Juntos’ Youth Program Coordinator, Elizabeth Valtierra.

The issue includes work of:

Luna Uriela Berzonsky
Estela Diaz Knott (luaproject.org)
Dana Espinosa (@ishtarsreturn)
Katherine Flores

Ramona Martinez (@by_ramona_martinez)
Arelys Martinez Fabian
