“She waited till it rained to let her tears roam freely.”

ARTIST STATEMENT
This time has been one of learning how to let go of the “given,” or the comfortable. I’ve been using this time to allow myself to return back to my roots of creating — the initial mediums that gave me excitement (painting and illustration).
This piece was a practice in patience — allowing my hands to continue moving in dedicated strokes and detaching my mind from the outcome. I often play with exaggerated embellishment (contrasting patterns layered with one another, bright vibrant colors, interplay of textures, etc) when it comes to my mixed-media body of work and I wanted to transfer that same principle into an illustrated work to use color and pattern to create a depth of interest.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Sri Kodakalla is an emerging mixed-media artist, working primarily with fiber, printmaking, and poetry. A common theme within her varied works is an exploration of the natural elements juxtaposed with geometric structures. She is often drawn to creating shapes, while exploring the fluidity and spontaneity of natural found materials. She derives inspiration from nature and psychology, in exploring how the physical ephemerality of the environment mirrors how we interact with the world and ourselves.
