STATEMENT
“I had a vision that my broken heart was made of
concrete, and that in the cracks of my concrete
heart, weeds had begun to grow.

They widened the cracks, the dandelion, plantain, and chickweed: medicinal plants. These plants aren’t from here. My European colonizer ancestors brought colonizing concrete to this land - and they also brought dandelions, smooth chickweed, plantain. They created systems of cruelties and systems of greed - and they also created me. I can widen the cracks.

Text is from a hymn by Isaac Watts, 1707. “
